Research Day Recap

On Friday, June 17th, Hoag Orthopedics hosted our virtual 7th Annual Orthopedic Fellowship Research Day lead by Course Director Dr. Robert Grumet of Hoag Orthopedic Institute. Over 100 attendees heard from Distinguished Visiting Professor Dr. Shane Nho, Associate Professor of Rush University Medical Center. Dr Nho delivered an engaging presentation, “Advancements in Hip Arthroscopy: From Bench to Beside”, recognizing the diagnosis and treatment of Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome. Our graduating fellows gave special case reviews and presentations of their own work and research investigations to their peers, attending surgeons, and our guest speaker.

Event Description:

We are delighted to have Dr. Shane J. Nho, Associate Professor of Rush University Medical Center as this year’s Distinguished Visiting Professor. Join has as our graduating fellows deliver special case reviews and presentations of their work and research investigations to their peers and attending surgeons. Our guest speaker, Dr. Nho, will deliver a presentation on "Advancements in Hip Arthroscopy: From Bench to Bedside"

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the diagnosis and treatment of Femoroacetabular Impingement Syndrome (FAIS)
  2. Identify differences in the accuracy of 2D and 3D imaging in patients with FAIS
  3. Recognize survivorship, complications, reasons for reoperation, and outcomes associated with retained articulating hip spacers
  4. Apply the 90-day periprosthetic fracture risk following total hip arthroplasty based on stem design
  5. Compare outcomes to help with implement decision making in utilizing anatomic total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) with eccentric glenoid reaming vs. reverse TSA for patients with rotator cuff intact glenohumeral osteoarthritis and significant glenoid deformity
  6. Identify the role of antibiotic-loaded bone cement in primary shoulder arthroplasty
  7. Feel comfortable with the risk profile of TXA
