Research Day Recap

On Friday, June 30th Hoag Orthopedics hosted our 2nd Annual Orthopaedic Fellowship Research Day. Distinguished Visiting Professor, Dr. Gregory B. Maletisof Kaiser Permanente, Baldwin Park, presented on his research on what they have learned from the Kaiser Permanente ACL Registry. In addition to his presentation, each Hoag Orthopedic Fellow and guest fellows from both The Sports Clinic and Kaiser Permanente, Orange County presented some of their most interesting cases from their year of training along with the research projects they completed during the year.

Event Description:

We are excited to have Dr. Gregory Maletis, Orthopedic Surgeon at Kaiser Permanente, Baldwin Park, as this year’s Hoag Orthopedic Distinguished Visiting Professor. Join us as our graduating Fellows deliver special case reviews and presentations on their work and research investigations to their peers, attending surgeons, and our guest speaker. Dr. Maletis will also deliver a presentation on his own on, “ACL Reconstruction: Factors Affecting Surgical Outcomes. What We Have Learned From The Kaiser Permanente ACL Registry”.

This symposium will be held at Hoag Orthopedic Institute, at 16250 Sand Canyon Avenue, Irvine, Ca 92618, in the Allan and Sandy Fainbarg Community Education Center. Sign in will begin at 6:30am, with breakfast available. The program will conclude at approximately 10:00am.

Accreditation

At the completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Make informed decisions when choosing which allograft to use for ACL reconstruction.
  2. Decrease the use of high risk allografts.
  3. Individualize care for ACLR surgery based on the risk factors for revision.
  4. Apply knowledge of risk of aseptic revision of fixation device techniques in ACL reconstruction using hamstring allografts.
  5. Idenfity risk factors for recurrent post-surgical instability following arthroscopic Bankart repair.
  6. Utilize an abduction external rotation view to improve diagnostic accuracy in shoulder labral pathology.
  7. Compare treatment options by applying knowledge of outcomes regarding pain and patient satisfaction after arthroscopic iliopsoas tenotomy.
  8. Apply knowledge of metal hypersensitivity in treating patients with a painful Total Knee Arthroplasty.
  9. Compare intraoperativefluoroscopy with postoperative standing radiographs in Direct Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty.
