Dr. David Gazzaniga
Physician Champion, HOI Sports Medicine Symposium (2023 – present)
David Gazzaniga, MD, HOI’s Division Chief of Sports Medicine. is
an orthopedic surgeon specializing in
sports medicine, including sports-related injuries of the shoulder, elbow, knee and hip.
Dr. Gazzaniga has served as team doctor for the Los Angeles Chargers and
Olympic athletes and is team physician for several local high schools.
He also mentors the next generation of orthopedic sports medicine fellows
as faculty on the
Hoag Orthopedics Sports Medicine Fellowship.
After growing up in Orange County, David Gazzaniga, M.D. left to play football
at Dartmouth College and remained to attend medical school. He then went
on to complete his residency at Harvard University. Dr. Gazzaniga has
completed three separate fellowships: trauma and foot & ankle at Harvard
University and sports medicine at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado.
Before relocating back to Orange County, Dr. Gazzaniga practiced in New
York for eight years. While in New York, he served as one of the team
doctors for the New York Jets as well as the head orthopedic surgeon for
the New York Islanders and Hofstra University. He also worked as the attending
Orthopedic Surgeon at the US Open in Flushing New York.
In his spare time, Dr. Gazzaniga enjoys spending time with his wife and
five children.
